Kevan Strathmeyer
Kevan Strathmeyer has been employed at Holman Ranch since 1988.
She received her Event Training experience from Richard Collins
at Pebble Beach. She was an “A” Pony Clubber and received
recognition for her performance in the 1970 Event world. She
rode with Bruce Davidson in the late 1970s. She also trained and
participated
in the hunter world in the 1990s.
Kevan specializes in starting young riders and introducing
beginner adults to English Riding. Kevan offers Trail Rides,
Group and Individual Lessons by appointment. |

Jessica Kent
Jessica Kent began riding lessons when she
was four years old in France. She moved to the U.S. when she was
eight, and as a teenager and young adult, she worked and studied
with some top riders and coaches including Jean Philippe
Giacomini, Rich Fellers and Mark Laskin, and at some renowned
stables including Piñon Farms. She later worked as an assistant
trainer at Sun Grove Farms and Willow Tree Stables, one of the
top hunter jumper barns in California.
Jessica has spent the past eight years working full time in
Monterey County for Videoranch, an Internet-based company. She
also worked as a trainer with private clients, and rode one
horse for two consecutive years at the Young Jumper
Championships, placing in the top ten on both occasions.
In February, 2008, Jessica joined the Lowder family as the
Stables manager. She is working hard to bring the Stables back
and up a notch. Jessica has been a Carmel Valley resident since
1999, where she lives with her husband Jerome and their daughter
Layla. |

Ellen Eckstein
Discipline: Dressage
Although she lives and maintains a training stable full-time in
Templeton, CA, Ellen Eckstein has lived and taught in Carmel
Valley since the 1970s. She returns every month to Holman Ranch
to conduct clinics.
For more than three decades, Ellen has worked with European and
American Classical Dressage instructors. In the late 70’s, she
combined Classical Dressage with the philosophies and techniques
learned from Tom Dorrance, who has been a major influence on her
riding career.
In 1977, she was selected to work with Olympic Coach Colonel
Lungquist in International competition. She has been USDF/ABIG
Region Seven Reserve Champion at Intermediare II. Ellen holds
both USDF Gold and Silver Medals. She has trained and shown two
horses at the Grand Prix Level. In the 1990s, she won CDS Res.
Ch. Horse of the Year, with Prix St. Georges. Ellen teaches by
appointment or through clinics. |

Dick Widger
Discipline: Hunter/Jumper
Dick Widger grew up on a Hunter/Jumper farm in New Jersey and
rode in the AHSA Medal Finals at Madison Square Garden in New
York City in 1977-1978. In 1979, Dick trained his first student
to ride in the same medal finals. Dick then went on to ride in
England with Malcolm Pyrah, a member of the British Olympic Show
Jumping Team. In 1986, he and his wife, Ruth, started Waterford
Show Farm in Walnut Creek, CA. Around 1995, he relocated to
Carmel Valley, his wife’s home town. Since then, he has been
specializing in stadium and crosscountry training in addition to
Green Hunters and Equitation horses. He is also a course
designer and clinician. Dick teaches by appointment or through
clinics. |

Ray Berta
Discipline: Western
Ray Berta specializes in developing “light, willing, responsive
and settled horses” of any discipline. Ray grew up on a large
cattle ranch in Carmel Valley. He reflects the style and
understanding of several famous local horsemen: Bill Dorrance,
Ray Hunt and Tom Dorrance. His years of experience have
developed the ability “to pinpoint
problems and resistance in horses, then open the door for
change.” He is an experienced teacher of all facets of ranch
riding, including roping and team penning. Ray teaches by
appointment or through clinics. |
